Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, at the Royal Palace in Doha on Monday, where the two leaders reviewed bilateral relations and regional developments.
The Somali President emphasized his country’s solidarity with Qatar, stressing that Somalia stands firmly against any actions that undermine the sovereignty, security, or dignity of the Gulf state. The discussions also covered ways to further strengthen the longstanding partnership between Somalia and Qatar across political, economic, and security fields.
The Emir of Qatar acknowledged Somalia’s stance and highlighted the value of reinforcing cooperation between the two nations, particularly at a time when the wider Arab and Islamic world is facing mounting challenges.
President Hassan Sheikh, accompanied by Somalia’s Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali, traveled to Doha to attend the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit. The summit was convened following the September 9 Israeli attack on Qatar, bringing together heads of state and senior officials from across the region.
Deliberations at the summit focused on safeguarding the sovereignty of member states, strengthening Arab and Islamic unity, and formulating a collective response to the crisis. A draft resolution, addressing both immediate concerns and long-term strategies, was expected to be adopted by participating nations.
The Somali delegation’s presence in Doha underscored Mogadishu’s commitment to regional solidarity and to coordinated action within Arab and Islamic frameworks.
