Iran’s judiciary has revealed that an Iranian-Swedish dual national has been tried over alleged espionage for Israel during the recent 12-day war, with a verdict expected soon.
Judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir said the case was heard in Alborz province by the second branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Court.
He added that the defendant, a Swedish citizen since 2020, confessed to being recruited by Israeli intelligence in 2023, receiving training in six European capitals, traveling to Israel, and entering Iran a month before the conflict. Electronic surveillance equipment was reportedly found during the war.
Officials described the arrest as part of a wider crackdown on espionage following the conflict. Authorities say more than 700 people were detained on suspicion of spying or cooperating with Israel after the war.
In November, the IRGC’s intelligence arm claimed it dismantled US-Israeli spy networks inside Iran. Parliament has also passed emergency legislation allowing espionage cases to be tried under wartime legal provisions.
