The Somali Military has secured the Alanley area near Warsheekh District in Middle Shabelle region, after clearing Al-Shabaab militias from their positions there on Thursday, though the militias have not yet fully withdrawn from the area.
This area is one of three locations where Al-Shabaab gathered in December, as they planned to advance toward the coastal lands of Warsheekh District to disrupt the coastal road linking Mogadishu to Middle Shabelle region and opening toward the central regions on the other side.
Danab and Gorgor Commandos from the National Armed Forces fully took control of Jabad Godane area on Monday, located between Warsheekh and the Xawaadley area under Balcad District.
On Thursday, the forces advanced to the Alanley area, and they are now approaching an area known as Shiikh-yaalo.
If the forces return to Shiikh-yaalo, it would mean the militants’ attempt to control the coastal road has been thwarted.
