Nigerian police under AUSSOM left Somalia

Today at Al Jazeera II Forward Operating Base in Mogadishu, AUSSOM honoured 160 officers from Nigeria’s Formed Police Unit (NFPU-13) with African Union medals for their contributions to peace and security in Somalia.

The SRCC and Head of AUSSOM, Amb. El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, presided over the ceremony, commending their professionalism, resilience, and selfless service during their one-year deployment.

He noted their commitment in advancing the mission’s mandate, including protecting vulnerable civilians, promoting the rule of law, and supporting the Somali Police Force (SPF).

AUSSOM Police Commissioner, AIGP Hillary Sao Kanu, also recognised their dedication and reaffirmed continued support to enable effective delivery of the mission’s mandate.

Senior officials attended the ceremony, including AUSSOM Sector One Commander and Acting Force Commander, Brig. Gen. Jackson Kayanja, Police Training and Development Coordinator, ACP Samuel Asiedu Okanta, UNSOS Chief of Supply Chain Management, Mr. Fabio Mevolli.
