Ethiopia has assumed the Chairship of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union (AU PSC) for the month of April 2026 and will officially commence presiding over the Councilās agenda on April 7, 2026. This marks the first time Ethiopia will chair the Council since rejoining it in April 2025.
During its chairship, Ethiopia will lead the Councilās deliberations on a range of key peace and security matters concerning the continent, encompassing both country-specific and thematic issues. Ethiopiaās chairship will formally commence with a flag-hoisting ceremony on April 7, 2026, marking the official welcome of the newly elected members of the African Union Peace and Security Council.
Ethiopia has been a member of the African Union Peace and Security Council since its establishment in 2004 and has previously served four terms prior to rejoining the Council in April 2025.
