Somali Pirates reject a $2m ransom to release Egyptian sailors, demand more

Share

Egyptian media outlets have revealed the failure of settlement attempts to release eight Egyptian sailors held captive by Somali pirates.

The pirates held an online meeting with the ship’s owner to negotiate. An agreement was reached on a sum of $2 million and the method of payment delivery; however, the pirates reneged on the agreement and failed to honor it or any of the procedures they had previously agreed upon.

The pirates had previously published a terrifying video of the abducted Egyptian sailors in their custody, filming them in a threatening manner directed at their families to force them into paying the ransom.

The pirates have been holding the eight Egyptians alongside four Indian sailors since May 2, 2026.
