AUSSOM assumed control of Operating Base (OB) SHAND Camp in Mogadishu following an official handover from British forces.
Established in 2017 as the primary UK operating location in Somalia, OB SHAND will now serve as a strategic hub to bolster AUSSOM’s operational capacity.
The SRCC & Head of AUSSOM, Amb. El Hadji Ibrahima Diene said the transition reflects continued partnership between the African Union, the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and international partners in advancing Somali-led peace, security and stabilisation efforts.
The UK Ambassador Charles King reaffirmed the UK’s support for countering terrorism, protecting civilians and consolidating security gains.
The handover was attended by AUSSOM Police Commissioner AIGP Hillary Sao Kanu, Sector One Commander Brig. Gen. Jackson Kayanja, and senior AUSSOM and UK personnel.
