Can Somalia face Mali’s scenario?

Share

Türkiye has built not only military training in Somalia, but also a long-term security architecture that strengthens state capacity.

This is precisely why this model has gained acceptance in different parts of Africa.

It would not be right to make hasty judgments about the developments that took place in Mali this morning.

A significant portion of the claims from the field have not yet been verified.

However, the scale, simultaneity, and targets of the attacks indicate that the security crisis in the lSahel has moved into a new phase.

For this very reason, the successful implementation of a similar model in a Sahelian country – namely Türkiye’s presence based on institutional capacity building – could make a serious difference for regional security. The issue is not only weapons or military support; it is the strengthening of the local army, border security, intelligence capacity, and state authority.

The experience observed on the continent so far will serve as an important reference for the Sahel.

Rather than externally imposed security, capacity building based on local ownership could significantly transform the region’s security environment.
