Mogadishu, Somalia — Colonel Mohamed Shalaqbeen, Deputy Police Commissioner at Mogadishu Seaport, has highlighted the continued improvement of security and public order across Mogadishu, attributing the progress to stronger coordination among security institutions and growing cooperation between the security forces and local communities.
Col. Shalaqbeen said that the security situation in the capital has improved through coordinated operations, increased vigilance and the timely exchange of information among the Somali Police Force, other national security institutions and residents.
“The progress achieved in Mogadishu is the result of cooperation, shared responsibility and the commitment of our security forces. Security cannot be maintained by government institutions alone; it requires the active participation and trust of the community,” Col. Shalaqbeen said.
He explained that strengthened coordination among security agencies has improved their capacity to prevent threats, respond rapidly to incidents and protect important public and economic facilities, including Mogadishu Seaport.
As Somalia’s largest maritime gateway, Mogadishu Seaport is essential to the country’s trade, public revenue and economic development.
Col. Shalaqbeen noted that maintaining security at the port requires constant vigilance, professional conduct and close cooperation among the Police, port authorities and other institutions operating within the facility.
“Our responsibility is to protect the people, commercial activity and critical national infrastructure. Every improvement in security contributes directly to peace, economic growth and public confidence,” he stated.
According to Col. Shalaqbeen, residents have played an important role by cooperating with security personnel and reporting suspicious activities. He encouraged the public to continue supporting efforts to preserve stability and prevent individuals or groups from threatening the peace of the capital.
“The people of Mogadishu are our most important partners. When citizens and security forces trust one another and exchange information, it becomes much more difficult for criminals and violent groups to operate,” he added.
He also emphasized that security personnel must maintain discipline, respect the public and perform their responsibilities professionally. He said constructive engagement with residents is essential for strengthening trust and achieving sustainable security.
Col. Shalaqbeen reaffirmed the commitment of Mogadishu Seaport Police and the wider Somali security institutions to protecting lives, property and national infrastructure while supporting the government’s broader efforts to build a peaceful and secure capital.
“Our objective is not only to respond to security incidents but to prevent them. We will continue working with communities and other security institutions to build a safer, more peaceful and prosperous Mogadishu,” Col. Shalaqbeen concluded.
