​Brigadier General Asnake Aytenew, the deputy commander of the Central Command of the Ethiopian National Defense Force, along with other senior officers and a large number of soldiers, was killed in Andodedicho while conducting operations and inspections between Nekemte and Gida Ayana.
​The Amhara rebel group, FANO, launched an ambush attack on the Commander and the troops he was leading.
Reports indicate that none of the forces, which numbered in the hundreds, survived.
​Neither the Federal Government of Ethiopia nor the military command has commented on the incident.
