The National Information and Security Service has stated that 138 suspects who were working in the forest by creating contact with terrorist and extremist forces armed to fulfill their needs by force and to disrupt Ethiopia’s peace and security and to hinder the upcoming 7th general election have been arrested by law.
According to the press release of the service office, the suspects who were moving around in different parts of our country are under strict disciplinary monitoring and they have been arrested in an operation in coordination with federal and regional security forces since April 09 2018 E.C.
According to the statement, the suspects were on a mission by inciting terrorism and violence in the country’s major cities including Addis Ababa and selected areas, organizing cells to armed groups, giving information, and attacking and obstructing.
Terrorist and extremist groups have been collecting and supplying money, snacks, military uniforms, media radios, phone cases and SIM cards, weapons and shooters in general logistics. It has been confirmed that they have taken action to disrupt election activities in selected cities and counties and to provoke ethnic and religious conflicts.
It has been confirmed from the data that some of the suspects have been trained in terrorism in Somalia by forming links with the international terrorists called Alshabab and IS. It has also been mentioned in the statement that they have been moving to some parts of our country and recruiting cells to the groups to facilitate the conditions for terrorist activities.
In addition, among the suspects arrested in the operation were involved in illegal arms smuggling by supplying weapons and ammunition to terrorist and extremist groups to undermine the security situation.
It has also been confirmed that they have been working on illegal human trafficking and cotroband trade to create economic disruption and to create shortage of basic consumer products.
The statement mentioned that various weapons, flammable explosives and bombs, shooters, different foreign currency notes and contraband items that were ready to be handed over to terrorist and extremist groups were seized.
It has been proven that 138 suspects who were involved in various crimes including terrorist activities have been brought under law by coordinating with the national defense force, Ethiopian federal police and regional security forces.
The National Information and Security Service has stated that it is carrying out more monitoring and studies to disrupt the hidden needs of terrorist groups and to disrupt their communication network, especially that it has completed the necessary preparations for the upcoming national election without any security problem. The society has also understood this by cooperating with the usual positive participation and pointing out such acts of crime from the service office and the whole country. He has called for the security forces to stand with him.
