Libyan commander Khalifa Haftar has announced the closure of Kufra airport, a key transit point long used for the transfer of Emirati weapons to Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces, for 90 days.
The advertised move comes amid a diplomatic push led by Saudi Arabia, alongside Egypt, aimed at pressuring the Haftar family to halt support for the RSF, on behalf of the United Arab Emirates.
With Kufra closed, Ethiopia and Chad remain the only transit routes reportedly used by the UAE in its involvement in the Sudan conflict.
Analysts suggest Ethiopia may face mounting pressure to fall into line, or risk similar destabilizing support being redirected towards armed groups within its own borders.
