Libyan authorities have announced a major crackdown on irregular migration, with plans to sharply increase deportations of sub-Saharan African migrants to their home countries.
The move comes as European nations intensify efforts to curb Mediterranean crossings. With Italy only 300 kilometers away.
Libya remains a key departure point, and officials estimate that up to 3 million irregular migrants have entered the country over the past 15 years many with their families raising concerns about long-term settlement.
The government has emphasized that Libya will not serve as a detention center for migrants rescued at sea and has launched a repatriation program targeting women, children, and the elderly, with two flights per week planned this month.
Recently Federal Republic of Somalia received two hundred Citizens from Libya a deportation process facilitated by IOM.
