Somalia is now beginning to tangibly benefit from its natural resources—resources that were not truly exploited in the past.
For this reason, we announced today jointly that significant progress has been made in exploring the oil and gas reserves in Somalia’s offshore waters.
This has been a long-awaited investment and exploration effort, and we particularly thank the Republic of Turkey for taking the lead in these vital operations. Technical and scientific assessments conducted so far have confirmed positive results, serving as a milestone for a new, crucial phase in Somalia’s economic recovery, sustainable development, and long-term prosperity.
This is a long-term investment requiring extensive exploration, time, and effort, yet the hopes and prospects remain very promising and encouraging.
Based on these outcomes, preparations are underway to enter the next phase of oil drilling.
It is a massive and challenging undertaking, but it will begin soon, and we hope for positive results in 2026, God willing.
Additionally, drilling operations will officially commence, with exploration and drilling vessels arriving in Somalia’s waters off the country’s coasts. This is no easy task.
This investment, effort, and steps taken clearly demonstrate the level of confidence Turkey has in Somalia and its commitment to standing alongside the Somali people. We are deeply grateful for this.
