57 newly deployed AUSSOM troops in Sector 5 received certificates from UNMAS after successfully completing Electronic Counter Measures (ECM) training at Jowhar Airfield.
The training was designed to equip troops with essential technical skills to effectively detect and counter IED threats posed by Al-Shabaab in Middle Shabelle, where they remain a persistent threat.
Sector 5 Commander and Burundi Contingent Commander, Brig. Gen. Michel Ndenzako, presided over the ceremony alongside UNSOS Regional Administrative Officer, Ms. Adja Sakho.
He highlighted that the training is critical in enhancing troop preparedness, force protection, and operational effectiveness against evolving threats. Ms. Sakho urged participants to apply their new skills to support mission objectives and Somalia’s peacebuilding efforts.
