Somalia and Kuwait Sign Three Key Agreements to Boost Cooperation
Somalia and Kuwait have signed three significant agreements aimed at deepening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across a range of sectors, officials announced on Tuesday.
The agreements were formalized during an official visit by Somali Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali to Kuwait, where he met with his Kuwaiti counterpart Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Yahya. The signing ceremony took place in the Kuwaiti capital and marked what both sides described as a new chapter in their longstanding partnership.
Under the accords, the two nations will establish a Joint Cooperation Committee to coordinate and monitor collaborative projects, launch a Bilateral Consultation Framework to facilitate regular political dialogue, and implement a Memorandum of Cooperation between Kuwait’s Saud Al-Nasser Al-Sabah Diplomatic Institute and Somalia’s Diplomatic Studies Institute to enhance training and skills development for diplomats.
The ministers also exchanged views on recent regional and global developments, underscoring their countries’ shared interests in peace, stability, and economic growth. Both leaders reaffirmed the “brotherly” ties between Somalia and Kuwait, with officials noting Kuwait’s history of humanitarian support and development assistance to Somalia.
According to the Somali Foreign Ministry, the new agreements are expected to bolster political coordination, promote economic engagement, and strengthen Somalia’s diplomatic capacity. The diplomatic training initiative, in particular, is viewed as a strategic move to modernize Somalia’s foreign service and prepare its envoys for more effective representation on the international stage.
Somalia and Kuwait also pledged to continue working together in multilateral forums, including the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the United Nations, while exploring new opportunities for trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
