Somalia refused UAE’s military equipment to leave the country

Share

There is a new esclation between Somalia and United Arab Emirates after three Ethiopian cargo planes attempted to leave the country carrying troops, staff, and diplomats from the United Arab Emirates government, which has been expelled from Somalia.

The Somali Federal Government has approved the transport of personnel only but firmly rejected the removal of any equipment or vehicles, due to additional security investigations and the intensifying political tensions between Somalia and the UAE.

The government insists that no items will be taken out until comprehensive inspections are completed, while Ethiopia has requested a short period for talks to reach a final decision.

The government had previously approved at least 10 flights for the UAE to depart the country, but additional flights are needed.

The government refused to allow UAE planes to return, but the UAE asked Ethiopia to permit a third country to handle the military equipment dispersal.

However, the government refused again to allow any items to be removed without further inspections.
