The National Refugee and Displacement Agency (NCRI), in collaboration with the Office of the President’s Special Envoy for JFS on Migration and Children’s Rights, repatriated 275 Somali citizens to the country.
These individuals were rescued from illegal smuggling and humanitarian crises they faced in Libya.Among these citizens are men, women, and children who were in perilous situations.
The repatriation received strong support from the European Union EU and the International Organization for Migration IOM Somalia, which played a crucial role in facilitating the journey.
These citizens endured abuses, illegal detention, and extremely harsh living conditions while in Libya.
Upon arriving in the country, they were warmly welcomed at the NCRI center and provided with comprehensive services, including medical care, temporary shelter, psychological support, food, and awareness on the dangers of smuggling.
Additionally, these citizens were returned to their home areas to reunite with their families, as part of broader efforts to curb smuggling and protect Somali citizens.
