The Türkiye Republic is planning to give the Federal government of Somalia some of its Warships per Türkiye Media reports.
Even though this can be dismissed as maritime law & brotherly courtesy, we expect at least some of the ships to be permanently transferred to Somalia at the end of their current mission, the reason for this is two folds.
TurkishNavy’s existing modernization plans and the large number of upcoming new ships require older ships like TCGBartın to be either retired or transferred.
Ankara wants the re-established Somali Navy to be NATO-spec and greatly modeled after the Turkish Navy Personnel training for the ships has already been underway for some time.
The move will greatly enhance the brotherly & allied Muslim nation’s ability to defend its long shores and project naval power beyond the horizon.
This is also deemed necessary for protecting Turkish commercial and energy interests in East Africa.
At the present time, there are 40 new hulls under construction at various shipyards throughout Türkiye, including multiple Milgem corvettes/frigates, FACs, submarines and the MUGEM aircraft carrier
