The Ministry of Defence of the Federal Republic of Somalia welcomes the United Nations Annual Report on Children and Armed Conflict (A/80/723-S/2026/357), which formally confirmed the removal of Ahl al-Sunna Waljama’a (ASWJ) from the list of parties responsible for grave violations against children in situations of armed conflict. ASWJ, which had for many years appeared in the annexes and reports of the United Nations on Children and Armed Conflict, was removed from the list following confirmation that the group no longer exists as an independent armed entity and that its members have been absorbed into Somalia’s national security institutions.
