The United Arab Emirates has banned Sudanese flights from landing at its airports, according to Sudan’s state news agency citing the country’s Civil Aviation Authority, a move highlighting the escalating tensions between the two nations.
Additionally, a Sudanese-owned aircraft was prevented from taking off from Abu Dhabi International Airport, the authority’s statement said.
Sudan’s Civil Aviation Authority expressed surprise and shock at the decision and said it is working with airlines to reschedule passenger flights to and from the UAE.
The Abu Dhabi administration has yet to respond to Sudan’s statement.
Sudan cut diplomatic ties with the UAE in May, accusing it of supporting the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and supplying them with advanced weapons since the outbreak of the country’s civil war in April 2023.
The UAE has consistently denied these allegations.
