The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has revoked a temporary protection status that allowed Somalis in Minnesota to stay in the US.
Fox News in the US reported that Trump removed the law that prevented Somalis in that state from being forcibly returned to Somalia.
Trump said, ‘Somali gangs are terrorizing the people of that important state, billions of dollars are missing, send them back to where they came from, it’s over.’Every US president has signed this law to prevent Somali-origin people, who have no criminal record, from being forcibly deported by US immigration authorities.
This decision has created significant concern among Somalis in the US who lack legal status and work in that state.
Trump’s ending of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) will negatively effect thousands of Somali Community living in Mennisota.
