UNHCR and the National Commission for Refugees and IDPs (NCRI), with support from the UNHCR Regional Bureau, welcomed 154 Somali refugees returning home from Yemen through the Assisted Spontaneous Return (ASR) programme.
This was the second assisted return movement from Yemen to Somalia this month, following the return of another group of Somali refugees on 5 August.
Through the ASR programme, UNHCR supports refugees who make an informed and voluntary decision to return home, helping ensure that their journey takes place in safety and dignity. These returns also contribute to broader efforts under the 50 by 30 Strategy to expand sustainable solutions for Somali refugees.
For the returnees, arriving back in Somalia marks the beginning of a new chapter as they reconnect with their families, communities, and country.
