Residents of Bula Mzuri, Bashal, Sambul and Kunaso areas in Garissa town are decrying poor access roads to their areas after their main road from Garissa CBD was washed away by floods from the recent rains in the county.
The residents say that despite having elected leaders from their area, they have been left to suffer from poor roads, which flood every time there is rain blocking the locals and even children from going to schools or madrassa.
Led by Yussuf Bile Salat, they are now calling on the county government and the relevant national government agency to move with speed and repair the roads before schools reopen for a second term.
“We have a problem with this road. Schools are almost opening and our children will have difficulties going to school especially when rains come. This road has been like this for some time now and no repairs have been done,” Salat said.
“We need a permanent solution. We have leaders who only come around during the electioneering period and when we have a problem like this, they are nowhere to be found. We appeal to all stakeholders in this area to come and help us as soon as possible,” he added.
Yussuf Abdi, a youth from the area said that poor roads had made it hard for the taxi and boda boda operators to work smoothly in those areas, affecting their livelihoods negatively.
