The 2nd Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia, Jibril Abdirahsid Haji, has renounced his citizenship of Kenya following a directive from the President of Somalia.
Over the past few months, diplomatic incidents have occurred between the two countries after Kenya turned back several members of the Somali government accused of unlawfully acquiring Kenyan citizenship.
Last Thursday, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud notified members of his government that they must choose between holding Kenyan dual citizenship and keeping their positions in the Federal Government.
Jibril was among the officials whom the Kenyan government accused of unlawfully obtaining its citizenship and being involved in the ongoing clan conflict in Mandera.
