The Head of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, departed today for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on an official visit, following an invitation from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. During the visit, he is expected to hold talks with the Saudi leadership on bilateral relations and a number of issues of mutual concern.

The visit comes within the framework of the longstanding relations between Sudan and Saudi Arabia, and the continued political and diplomatic coordination between the two countries, as well as consultations on developments in Sudan and the wider region and ways to support stability.

The visit is expected to represent a continuation of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to advance a political settlement to the conflict in Sudan in coordination with international partners. In this context, the Saudi-US Investment Forum held in Washington in November 2025 marked a significant moment, when the US president announced that he would begin working on the Sudan file in response to a request from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who emphasized that the situation in Sudan requires effective and urgent intervention.

The US president also stressed the importance of placing Sudan high on the agenda of US foreign policy, expressing his intention to work in coordination with Saudi Arabia and other partners to reach a settlement that would end the war and alleviate the suffering of civilians.

In official reactions, the Sudanese government welcomed these US-Saudi efforts, affirming its readiness to engage seriously with Riyadh and Washington in support of the peace track and the achievement of a meaningful ceasefire that would reassure the Sudanese people.

Sudan-Saudi relations continue to hold particular significance given the Kingdom’s role in supporting regional stability and backing political and diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict and promoting peace and security in Sudan.

The visit also comes amid growing political convergence between Sudan and Saudi Arabia, with the positions of both countries in recent months showing a high degree of alignment on developments in Sudan and approaches to addressing them, reflecting the level of coordination and understanding between the two leaderships on regional issues and the path toward peace and stability.
