Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM) General Assembly, which will begin its weekly work on Tuesday, 20 January, will deliberate on a presidential motion to extend the deployment period of Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) naval elements for an additional one year as of 10 February 2026.
The mandate covers operations in the Gulf of Aden, Somali territorial waters and offshore areas, the Arabian Sea, and adjacent regions.
Turkey and Somalia recently signed security agreements on defence, Somali maritime security, offshore and Oil exploration.
If the Turkey Parliament approved the extension of the naval deployment to Somalia, it will secure Somalia waters and natural resources.
