Arguably, 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗺𝘂𝗱𝘂𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮’𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗙𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲. Its central geographical location, extensive coastline, resilient communities, economic potential and significant role in national security place it at the heart of Somalia’s political and developmental future.

The state’s progress or setbacks often have implications that extend well beyond its own borders, making Galmudug an important contributor to the country’s stability, governance and long-term prosperity.

Despite its considerable strengths, Galmudug continues to navigate complex challenges, including 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. At the same time, these challenges present opportunities for leadership that can strengthen public institutions, foster dialogue and build confidence among communities.

For me, Galmudug is more than a subject of professional interest. It is my family’s homeland. Both my mother’s and father’s families originate from Galmudug, making its peace, stability and future deeply personal. I believe that a secure, united and prosperous Galmudug is not only vital for its own people but also for the wider success of Somalia’s federal system.

Within this evolving political environment, 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗛𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗻, 𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗮𝘀 “𝗟𝗶𝗶 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿” has become one of the state’s most recognised political figures. His public engagements and political messaging have consistently focused on themes of security, peace, justice, reconciliation and inclusive development, reflecting issues that remain central to public debate across Galmudug.

His engagement with communities did not begin with the current political campaign. Over several years, he has maintained contact with residents across different parts of Galmudug, meeting elders, women, young people, business leaders, religious scholars and community representatives. This continued outreach has contributed to his public profile and shaped the way many people view his political journey.

One of Leader Liban Ahmed Hassan’s most enduring strengths has been his ability to build genuine and lasting relationships with the people of Galmudug through action rather than rhetoric. During periods of severe drought, when countless families and communities across the state were facing immense hardship, 𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱.

For many residents, these efforts represented far more than charitable donations; they reflected a leader who was present, accessible and willing to stand alongside his people during their most difficult moments. In the eyes of many communities, leadership is ultimately defined by compassion, responsibility and the willingness to serve when help is needed most.

It is this people-centred approach that many supporters believe has become one of the defining pillars of Leader Liban Ahmed Hassan’s leadership. The trust and goodwill he has cultivated through years of community engagement, humanitarian support and personal outreach have created a connection that extends well beyond politics.

Many view these relationships as one of his greatest strengths and a reflection of the qualities expected of a statesman—𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 and understands that the true measure of leadership is not found in promises made during campaigns, but in the lasting confidence and hope earned from the people through consistent action.

On the other hand, it is worth mentioning that the 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 & 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘆 (𝗝𝗦𝗣) has become an increasingly prominent force in Galmudug’s political landscape under Leader Liban Ahmed Hassan’s candidacy for the leadership of Galmudug.

Through an extensive programme of rallies, public meetings and grassroots engagement across towns, villages and districts throughout the state, the party has worked to build direct relationships with communities while presenting its vision for a safer, more united and more prosperous Galmudug.

Central to this outreach has been encouraging civic participation, promoting 𝘃𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 in determining the future direction of the state.

Under Leader Liban’s candidacy, the Justice & Unity Party has developed a broad grassroots movement founded on listening to the people, understanding their priorities and presenting a vision centred on security, unity, good governance and sustainable development.

One of the defining characteristics of Leader Liban Ahmed Hassan’s bid to lead Galmudug has been the remarkable level of public engagement witnessed during his outreach across the state.

In many of the towns and districts he has visited, 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗱𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 for peace, security, institutional reform, youth empowerment, economic growth and inclusive governance.

For many supporters, these gatherings reflect growing confidence in his leadership and a desire for a new chapter in Galmudug’s political development. The momentum generated by his campaign has significantly strengthened the profile of the Justice & Unity Party, with many viewing its expanding grassroots presence as one of the most significant features of the current political landscape in Galmudug.

A notable moment in his public engagement occurred almost two years ago when he visited 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗿-𝗱𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆. Harar-dheere has long held strategic importance in Somalia’s efforts against extremist groups, and its communities have experienced the direct impact of conflict.

The visit illustrated his willingness to engage directly with local communities during a difficult period and was welcomed by many residents and community leaders. It also demonstrated that his engagement with communities across Galmudug predates the current political campaign.

Supporters also point to the relationships he built with local community leaders and local freedom fighters during that period as one of the defining strengths of his leadership profile. They argue that the trust established through direct engagement and solidarity with communities facing difficult security challenges remains one of his greatest political assets as he seeks the leadership of Galmudug.

In recent months, the Justice & Unity Party has expanded its public outreach through rallies and meetings held across towns and districts in Galmudug. These events have provided opportunities for supporters and residents to hear the party’s vision and discuss issues affecting their communities. They also reflect the growing level of political participation and civic engagement taking place across the state.

One of the greatest opportunities available to any future administration in Galmudug is 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲’𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲—𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲. Galmudug possesses an extraordinary wealth of human capital that, if properly mobilised, could transform the state’s future.

Across Somalia and throughout the global diaspora are highly educated professionals, respected academics, experienced civil servants, entrepreneurs, investors, business leaders, engineers, doctors, teachers, security experts, legal professionals, economists, technology specialists and development practitioners whose roots lie in Galmudug.

Alongside them is an ambitious new generation of talented young people whose skills, innovation and determination represent the future of the state. If Leader Liban Ahmed Hassan is entrusted with leading Galmudug, perhaps his greatest opportunity will be 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆.

Bringing together the knowledge and experience of the Galmudug diaspora, empowering the private sector, encouraging investment, strengthening partnerships with the business community and opening government institutions to qualified professionals could help unlock unprecedented opportunities for growth and reform.

A modern administration that values expertise and performance have the potential to strengthen public institutions, improve service delivery, attract investment, create employment and restore confidence in government. Many citizens also hope that the future of Galmudug will increasingly be shaped by competence, accountability and measurable public service.

By 𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲’𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀 and creating opportunities for skilled individuals to contribute regardless of background, a future administration could draw on one of Galmudug’s greatest competitive advantages—its people.

Harnessing this collective talent while promoting unity, reconciliation and inclusive governance would provide a strong foundation for lasting peace, economic prosperity and sustainable development.

Regardless of political affiliation, 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗺𝘂𝗱𝘂𝗴’𝘀 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 strengthening institutions, improving security, expanding economic opportunities, investing in education and creating meaningful employment for young people. These are priorities shared by many citizens and remain central to the state’s continued development.

As Somalia continues its journey of state-building, Galmudug’s role will remain significant. The quality of governance, the strength of its institutions and the ability of its leaders and communities to work together will help shape not only the future of the state itself but also contribute to the broader future of the nation.
