Türkiye’s Ambassador to Mogadishu, Alper Aktaş, announced during Somalia’s National Internal Security Conference that Türkiye had increased its air assets supporting counterterrorism operations at the request of the Somali authorities.
Aktaş said the elite GORGOR units trained at the TURKSOM military base continue to fight terrorist organizations, adding that Türkiye has also trained more than 1,000 specialized personnel within the Somali Police Force.
Highlighting Somalia’s significant security progress, Aktaş said the Çağrı Bey drilling vessel’s hydrocarbon exploration activities, fisheries investments and the planned spaceport project would contribute to the country’s economic development and security.
“Türkiye remains fully committed to supporting Somalia,” Aktaş said
