Somalia’s state Minister of Foreign Affairs rejects recent reports from western media which said that Mogadishu is close to fall under Al shabab.
Ali Omar made posts on his X handle said:
“Mogadishu is not Kabul 2021 or Damascus 2024. It is a city where security has improved, federal and regional institutions exist, and a vibrant population is investing in normal life.
Al-Shabaab can stage attacks and exploit political tensions, it does not have the popular support.
Comparisons with Taliban or HTS are misleading. Those cases involved very specific local dynamics and power vacuums.
There is no majority Pashtun supporting forTaliban, nor majority Sunni rallying behind HTS and there is no nationwide grassroots constituency in Somalia for AS.”
