Some of Somalia’s lower house MPs will face allowance cut after they failed to attend Parliament sessions as Parliament leadership claimed.
Second Deputy Speaker Abdullahi Omar Abshirow has announced that from now on, absent MPs without leave will no longer be excused, and their allowances will be cut.
He stated that 149 MPs did not attend the recent session of the House of the People and their allowances for this month will be withheld after several warnings were ignored.
Recent sessions of the House have sometimes been canceled due to lack of quorum, and the parliamentary leadership said it is taking measures against this frequent absenteeism.
