the African Union (AU) Commission marked the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People at an event in Addis Abeba, where AU Commission Chairperson Mahamoud Ali Youssouf delivered remarks underscoring the continent’s long-standing support for Palestine as he received Palestinian Foreign Minister.
According to an AU statement, the Chairperson said the Union “stands firm” in its backing of the Palestinian people’s rights and aspirations, describing solidarity as a “moral imperative.” He reaffirmed the AU’s position supporting the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The AU statement added that the Chairperson welcomed the 2025 Sharm El-Sheikh Gaza Ceasefire Agreement and urged renewed negotiations, unhindered humanitarian access, and full adherence to international law.
