Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, recently stated in a government TV interview that 2026 will be a pivotal year of change regarding energy between Turkey and Somalia.
He said they want to bring good news from Somalia and deliver it to their country and the Somali people, tied to plans for oil and gas drilling off Somalia’s coast.
Bayraktar noted that 2026 marks a turning point because seismic studies by the Oruc Reis ship were completed in October 2025, paving the way for deep-sea hydrocarbon drilling in Somalia.
He emphasized this partnership as strategic, strengthening brotherly ties between the two nations, especially in fighting terrorism and boosting economic development
