The Minister of Defence, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, attended an event commemorating International Women’s Day, which also aimed to encourage and recognise female members of the Somali National Army.
The event highlighted the important role women play in the defence of the nation, the protection of security, and their participation in national military operations.
Officials who spoke at the event praised the courage and dedication of the women serving in the Somali National Army, who continue to play a vital role in defending the country and safeguarding national stability.
The Minister of Defence noted that the Federal Government of Somalia remains committed to strengthening the participation of women within the security institutions and emphasised the importance of promoting their capabilities and leadership so they can contribute more effectively to the development and professionalism of the Somali National Army.
The event was also attended by the Commander of the Somali National Army, Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud, the Commander of the Land Forces, Brigadier General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Somalia and other senior military officials, reflecting the shared commitment to supporting the role of women within Somalia’s armed forces.
