Egypt to deploy elite military units to Djibouti and Eritrea.

Share

Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister Kamel El Wazir concluded a landmark visit to Djibouti this week. As part of the visit, an agreement was finalised to develop the Doraleh Port on the Gulf of Aden.

Under these agreements, Egypt aims to modernise the Doraleh Port and Eritrea’s strategic Red Sea port of Assab by increasing their capacity, creating berths for warships, and enabling the deployment of a limited number of elite military units.

Egypt’s aim is to pressure Ethiopia which is still reluctant to agree with Egypt Nile water sharing agreement.

Ethiopia is now under pressure, 90% of Ethiopia’s import relays on Doraleh Port in Djibouti.
