Suspected Al-Shabaab militants on Sunday evening attempted to attack a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) camp at Irresuki in Mandera Central Sub-County but were successfully repulsed by security personnel.
According to a report filed at Elwak Police Station, the incident occurred at around 8:10 PM when militants attempted to engage the security camp. The Assistant Chief of Irresuki Sub-Location reported the incident to police.
Security forces at the camp responded swiftly, engaging the attackers and forcing them to retreat.
No fatalities or injuries have been reported so far on the side of security personnel.
It remains unclear whether the militants suffered any casualties.
A clearance patrol has been launched in the area to assess the situation and ensure the area is secure.
The attack comes amid heightened security concerns in Kenya’s northeastern border region, where Al-Shabaab militants have previously targeted security installations and civilian infrastructure.
