The Fafi police commander and another police officer have been killed after the vehicle they were travelling in struck an improvised explosive device (IED) planted along the road between Saretho and Bogyar.
Officers from the General Service Unit (GSU), regular police and the Administration Police (AP) have been deployed to the scene and are conducting security operations.
The attack is suspected to have been carried out by the Al-Shabaab militant group, although the perpetrators have not yet been officially confirmed.
