A contingent of Somali National Army soldiers is currently undergoing advanced military training in Turkiye as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Somalia’s armed forces and accelerate the modernization of the country’s security sector.
The program involves support from Turkish defense institutions and companies, including STM, which provides technical expertise, strategic training, and modern defense-oriented instruction designed to enhance operational readiness.
Military officials say the Somali troops are receiving specialized training in leadership development, modern warfare tactics, operational planning, and the use of advanced defense systems, all aimed at improving combat effectiveness upon their return to Somalia.
The initiative reflects the deepening strategic defense partnership between Somalia and Turkiye, with Ankara continuing to play a central role in supporting the rebuilding and professionalization of Somalia’s military capabilities.
