Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced financial assistance of Rs12.5 million for each family of the three Pakistanis killed during a rescue operation off the coast of Somalia, along with free education and healthcare for their children and a house for each family.

The prime minister made the announcement while speaking by telephone with Azhan Kashif, son of Pakistani national Syed Kashif Umar, and expressed his heartfelt condolences over his death.

The three Pakistanis — Syed Kashif Umar, Mahmood Ahmed Ansari and Rafiullah Khan — were killed during the rescue of a hijacked vessel off the Somali coast, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Pakistani Embassy to remain in continuous contact with Somali authorities and other relevant parties and expedite the repatriation of the deceased Pakistanis.

He also directed that the injured Pakistanis be provided the best possible medical treatment and that all possible measures be taken for the safe return of the remaining Pakistani crew members.
