Somalia’s Immigration agency Director opened four day training on combating human trafficking

​The Director General of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency, Mr. Hussein Qasim Yusuf,  opened today a training workshop in Mogadishu on combating human trafficking, conducted by experts from the Government of Finland.

​The Director General, Mr. Hussein Qasim Yusuf, noted that smuggling and human trafficking pose a significant threat to society, particularly to youth, women, and children, who are sometimes misled by false hopes.

He pointed out that for Somalia, which has  uncontroled borders is facingchallenges, it is crucial to have officers with sufficient knowledge and skills to tackle human trafficking.

​Furthermore, the Director General emphasized that the fight against smuggling is not a job that a single agency can handle alone, but rather requires strong cooperation among government agencies, international partners, and the community.

He stated that this training is part of the efforts to strengthen the Agency’s capacity and to enhance international cooperation regarding border security and the prevention of human smuggling.

​The four-day training is part of a three-year cooperation agreement between the Somali Immigration and Citizenship Agency and the Government of Finland, aimed at strengthening border security and building the capacity of the Agency.
