Somali House of the People members held a meeting today and approved the Somali Cyber Security Bill, with 144 MPs voting yes, one voting no, and no abstentions.

This appears to be a recent development following earlier discussions and second readings of the bill.

The Cyber Security Bill, prepared by the Ministry of Communications and Technology, aims to protect computer systems, networks, and data from cyber threats, prevent cybercrimes, and enable investigations and prosecutions.

Somalia’s Cabinet initially approved it in August 2025 to boost digital security.

Parliament advanced it through second reading in early January 2026, with MPs debating its importance for digital safety.
