A directive recently issued by the Federal Government of Somalia took effect in the country today, stipulating that every traveler must carry their NIRA national identity card or birth certificate.
Airlines have informed passengers traveling domestically and internationally that starting today, October 1st, this order has come into effect.
The directive has already impacted today’s flight between Mogadishu and Garowe, which was canceled today.
According to the information we received, Freedom Airlines informed passengers traveling from Garowe that they could not depart today without NIRA documentation.
Puntland had previously banned the NIRA ID card within its regions, which has affected Puntland residents who intend to travel abroad.
