Turkey has deployed its most elite forces to Somalia

The Turkish Ministry of Defense confirmed  that new troops have been sent to Somalia to strengthen ongoing military operations in the country, particularly in the maritime sector and coastal operations.The new unit brought to Somalia includes the Amphibious Marine Infantry Battalion (Amfibi Deniz Piyade Bölüğü), a unit of the Turkish Navy’s Marine Corps (Turkish Marine Corps).

This unit has the capability to conduct maritime and coastal operations, ready to operate in sea-land interface areas, especially counter-terrorism missions and port protection.

This new Turkish unit will be part of the operations of the Somali-Turk Task Force, working in logistics, operations, training, and technical support for Somali forces.

This step is expected to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries and elevate Somalia’s maritime defense and coastal security capabilities.

The Turkish government, under its forces in TurkSom—which initially consisted of instructors and trainers—added hundreds of special forces soldiers last year. During Hassan Sheikh’s recent trip to Turkey, it was agreed to grant the command the highest priority. Recently, the Air Force commander arrived in Mogadishu, bringing combat aircraft and air force units.
