“We killed 22 NUP, next is Bobi Wine.”, Museveni’s Son

Tensions in Uganda have escalated after the army chief General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is also Museveni’s son, ordered opposition leader Bobi Wine to surrender within 48 hours.

Muhoozi, who made the remarks on X, also claimed that security forces had killed several supporters of Bobi Wine’s NUP party.

He said that the army killed 22 NUP members and 23 should be Bobi Wine the main opposition leader.

President Yoweri Museveni was declared the winner of last week’s election with 71.6% of the vote, securing an eighth term, while Wine placed second with 24%.

The results have been widely criticised by election observers and rights groups. Authorities have since intensified a crackdown, charging more than 100 opposition supporters with offences linked to election-related unrest.
