Together with several field specialists from Türkiye, I had previously argued that the realities on the ground pointed in this direction.
It now appears that developments becoming visible today confirm that our analyses from at least a year ago were accurate.
In fact, my assessment is the following: the base in question is highly likely to be located in the Agabar area, situated to the west of Berbera, extending toward the interior regions of Lughaya. Why this location?
Agabar hosts some of the largest known gold deposits, as well as lithium and iron ore reserves in Somaliland. This gives the area both geostrategic and geoeconomic significance from Israel’s perspective.
In this context, it is quite plausible that, in exchange for Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, the authorities in Hargeisa may have granted Israel access to this territory and its underground resources, as well as the possibility of establishing a base there to monitor Houthi movements.
