The African Union mission forces in Somalia AUSSOM, which have 56 bases in southern Somalia specifically in the regions of Hirshabeelle, Jubbaland, South West State, and the Banadir region will withdraw from Somalia by the end of this year if they do not receive financial support, following a decision by the United States government to halt its support for peacebuilding in Somalia.
11,826 soldiers operate under the name AUSSOM. The majority of these forces are stationed in various locations, with Uganda having 22 bases, Ethiopia operating in 15 bases, Kenya in 8 bases, Djibouti in 6 bases, and Burundi stationed in 5 bases.
All of these forces participate in operations against Al-Shabaab and the protection of vital infrastructure, such as government facilities, airports, seaports, security checkpoints, and the National Presidential Palace.
