Ruth Anne Stevens-Klitz assumed duties as Deputy Chief of Mission in Mogadishu, Somalia in August 2026. A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Ruth Anne has spent more than 25 years advancing U.S. interests through diplomacy in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, where she most recently served as the Counselor for Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy to Senegal and Guinea-Bissau.
Across her career, Ruth Anne has focused on engaging with a wide range of local audiences and building partnerships with host governments, international and private sector partners, and civil society organizations to increase the exchange of ideas and information across diverse communities, expand dialogue with youth and emerging leaders, promote economic and commercial opportunity, champion the preservation of cultural heritage, and support media freedom. Prior tours include Ethiopia, Egypt, Morocco, Germany, Israel, and Armenia, as well as multiple tours in Washington, D.C.
Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, Ruth Anne holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and a Master’s of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, where her thesis research examined public policies impacting societal resilience to information manipulation. She speaks French, German, Russian, and Arabic.
