Turkish officials have visited the Somali Air Force base in Balidoogle, where a key facility for joint operations between Somali and Turkish forces is planned to be built.
According to security officials closely monitoring the situation in Southwest State, the plans include expanding the runway and constructing aircraft hangars as the base is prepared to become a strategic military location.
Additionally, U.S. officials stationed in Balidoogle are expected to relocate to the Danab base in Mogadishu, as African Union and US forces withdraw from the Balidoogle area.
While the U.S. has largely transitioned the training and daily operations of Somali forces to Somali officials, it is expected to continue monitoring and providing security support in the area.
This plan could make Balidoogle one of the most important hubs for military cooperation between Somalia, Turkey, and international partners.
