The government of Uganda has sent a new unit of its troops to Somalia to participate in the AUSSOM mission, after completing training to prepare them for the operation.

A farewell ceremony was held for the troops yesterday at the International Peace Support Operations Training Centre (IPSO-TC) located in Singo, Nakaseke District, Uganda.

The Deputy Commander of the Uganda Land Forces, Maj Gen Felix Busizoori, urged the troops to maintain discipline, cooperation, and coordination.

“When you work together, you will succeed together,” Busizoori said.

The troops were also urged to treat the Somali people well and to avoid unauthorized use of social media.

The commander of the center, Col Moses Nabaasa, advised the troops to uphold discipline, patriotism, and cooperation throughout their mission.

“You are going on this mission together. You trained as a team, fight as a team and succeed, maintain discipline, and always uphold the values of the Ugandan military,” said Col Nabaasa.

Uganda yesterday rotated out troops whose tour of duty in Somalia had ended, replacing them with new forces.
