AUC welcomes the signing of the Treaty of National Peace in Libya

H.E. Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssef, Chairman of the African Union Commission, welcomes the esteemed step taken by H.E. Dr. Mohamed Yunis-Exile, Chairman of the Presidential Council of the State of Libya, to sign the Treaty of Peace and Reconciliation in Tripoli on 7 January 2025.

He also expresses his deep appreciation for this detailed commitment in the interest of the path of peace and national reconciliation in Libya.

Mr. President of the African Union Commission considers that this signature is another step towards achieving lasting peace in Libya. And for him, he calls on all Libyan parties to show full commitment and participate constructively and in good faith, in a spirit of responsibility, dialogue and tolerance, to ensure that the national interest prevails above all consideration.

Mr. President of the African Union Commission renews his full solidarity and strong support for Libya and its people, reaffirming the determination of the African Union to continue its tireless efforts towards achieving lasting peace in the country.

It also notes in the context of the African Union’s top priority and firm commitment to the implementation of the Treaty of National Peace and Reconciliation, which was signed in Addis Ababa in February 2025 under his patronage, noted by the steadfast support of the National Peace Map in Libya.
